More Information

Best friends Rooney and Josh! RIP Rooney 12/16.

Patricia McQueen has been photographing fine Thoroughbreds since 1983, and has collected a library of thousands of images. She has traveled North America in search of the finest horse racing events, and even ventured to Australia to photograph a son of Secretariat, her all-time favorite horse. In addition to photographing racing Thoroughbreds, Patricia has often visited the breeding farms that former stars call home. Her expertise in capturing the essence of the Thoroughbred clearly shows in her work.

Through the years, she has been enamored of certain horses ... whether because of special personalities, greatness on the track, or other unique characteristics. Most would not make anyone’s “top ten” list, but all found their way into her heart. Although it is hard to single out a few names, she has particularly fond memories of  John Henry, Gate Dancer, Interco, Lady's Secret, Precisionist, Ferdinand, Risen Star, Easy Goer, Go For Wand, Bayakoa, Holy Bull, Cigar, Tinners Way, Favorite Trick, Free House, Bernardini and Kingston Rule, Rachel Alexandra, Zenyatta and of course American Pharoah.

For more than 20 years, her work was featured in the pages of the Thoroughbred Times, an international racing industry weekly. She has also been published in several other magazines, including The Blood-Horse, The Horse of Delaware Valley, Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred, California Thoroughbred, Florida Horse and Racing Action.

She has been researching sons and daughters of Secretariat and is writing a series of articles for Thoroughbred Racing Commentary; she photographed many of his stakes-winning and stakes-producing offspring.

She has a large collection of stock photographs, and Patricia is also available to create custom images for your farm or stable. Based in Massachusetts, she travels as needed.

Patricia has been a volunteer with CANTER, a group that helps find homes for ex-racehorses. She helped with the New England chapter, providing photography services, writing for the organization's blog and preparing newsletters. With racing at Suffolk Downs -- the last Thoroughbred track in the region -- extremely limited these days, there is not a lot of activity.

In recent years, Patricia has ventured into other photographic endeavors, highlighted by a 26-day voyage to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands in January 2006 and a 10-day expedition to Svalbard in search of polar bears in July 2015. Other areas of interest are birds and animals, hot air balloons and scenic locations around the world.
